Big fan of bichirs bur as mentioned keeping them with large cichlids can be a challenge at feeding time.
Bioload and maintenance are a concern too. Im keeping a pearsei and 12 inch nile bichir in a 150 and thats fully stocked. Big cichlids create allot of waste the nile is only in with him because it wouldnt play nice with the other bichirs in a 300.
I wouldnt keep a nile long term in an 18 inch wide tank.
Captive bred endlicheri may work for a long time as well as an ornate along woth some medium sized cichlid.
Upper jaw bichirs like dels, sens, gold dust, palmas palmas, mokes, and polli wpuld be better suited long term
