Update and some Questions.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
there starting to get used to eachother just like you wouldnt go sitting next to someone you just met and be friends with them, fish need time, you did good man alot of people undersize there tank, nice pics too man keep up the good work!

another weird thing that they do weird is sort of like a cat marks it territory. they rub their sides on an ornament and then with a burst of speed they push off of it. whats that all about?

when your fish are rubbing up against things and swimming away really fast, it's called flashing, it's usually harmless, but if they start doing it alot, it can be a sign of external parasites.

as for your other questions about their "bonding", there's really no answer to them, they are fish... sometimes they will swim around near each other and sometimes they will all chill in their own part of the tank.

the coloration will also vary from one fish to the next, one fish may have alot of deep red color and others may have hardly any at all, i've seen wild reds that have hardly any color and i've seen tank bred with brilliant red coloration. you can try to increase their color with good tank conditions and a healthy diet, shrimp is a good color enhancer due to their astaxanthin content.

they probably aren't eating as much because they are getting bigger, when they are tiny, they will pretty much eat anytime food is thrown in the tank but as they get bigger, they really only need to eat every few days.

ya i would say that they dont do it all the time. ive seen them do it like 4x in months. another thing is they will swim side by side and rub eachother in that same flashing way. i thought it was mating lol

The color is like joe said it's just natural like people in the summer some get a tan faster then others. but if you keep up with the shrimp/krill feeding they can get to about the same color for all of them.

I would personally give them a couple of days off from feeding to see if they get their hunger back. They are smae enough to get away from each other if they do decide to turn and they should be eating alot right now mine ate like mad till they were about 4.5" now that they are all well over 5" closer to 6" I feed once a day or every other depending on how they ate whent they were fed last.
