It's been an amazing 14 days. Hydrolycus Armatus are the Holy Grail of fish IMO.

Exotic characin looks with huge teeth + cichlid attitude = :headbang2

Two weeks ago the fish was slightly larger then a 4" net. Today he is easily 1" larger then the same net!!

Even better news, today he charged FD krill and mouthed frozen, though he didnt swallow. Question is, should I continue bulking him up on live, or starve him and get him on prepared foods?

First pic is from day #1 Also please pick out the best pic so I can post on my local fish clubs site!

looks good! i would keep tryin the frozen food. he looks a little jumpy still by the looks of his nose, or is he in a small tank?. what up w the scar on his fin? he fightin w someone?

His nose was banged up when I received him and he made it worse in the 29 QT during the first two days. This fish is far from being jumpy. When I started snapping the pics he got pissed off and started chasing every other fish in the tank cause he was mad! It took me for ever to get these pics.

His dorsal fin literally snapped in half about 5 days from unknown reasons, but as you can tell has healed incredibly quick. If youve ever kept Ps you know what Im talking about.

As for the mark behind his dorsal fin, Im not sure. Its been there since day one. Its not a scar cause his scales are smooth and flush with his skin, it more just a lack of pigment...

Im leaning towards more bulk with feeders for at least two more weeks....do you really think I should risk starving him so soon?

one of my scombs had a spot like that too. no big deal. hes growin quick!!

Looking good.. Very nice!

Sweet pish, I would continue to bulk him up for awhile but begin to mix in some preped foods to get him used to it....

Very nice looking fish !! I like pic 7 best.

I would just keep pumping him on live and not worry about prepared foods right now. I went through a two month period where I only fed mine three times (live food) I was starving for 2-3 weeks in between. He will charge krill and mouth silversides but still not taking. I have given up for now and going back to pumping on live. They are definately bad ass fish. If I get down eye level with mine he will continually charge at me until I go away.
