update: bichir spawn

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
cool, anything happened? what would the chances of getting albinos from a albinoxnormal cross?

nothing yet :( i was kinda hoping to see somthing by now. i am begining to wonder if the eggs got fertilized. hopefully some of the eggs i cant see under the moss are looking different than the ones on top. i will check tonight and in the morning.... i will keep posting progress.

not very good news :(
i dont think the eggs got fertilized. the eggs are still white and they are getting clear fuzzy stuff growing on them. i will keep them in the bichir crib one more day to make sure but i am going to chalk this up to a learning experience. i will be ready for the next spawn. hopefully the males will be ready too.

Unfortunately, I think xrayz is correct about the eggs not being fertilized. The white color tends to indicate that they're fungusing. Still....it is great to see spawning activity and maybe he'll have better luck with the next batch.

As for getting albinos from a normal X albino cross, you could get a ratio of 1 albino : 3 normal young IF the normal colored parent is carrying one gene (of a pair) for albinism. If both of the normal parent's genes are for 'normal' then none of the offspring could be albino.

Too bad about the eggs but hopefully they'll spawn again. By the way did you do anything special to induce spawning or was it spontaneous kind of thing?

sorry about that! but now that they've spawned once, i have no doubt they will do so again! better luck next time.
