Update - Matten Filters and Stock List

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I ended up getting some bocourti cichlids after seeing your thread and fish room video. Awesome fish, but very greedy w food lol

Very intriguing. Very. Tanks are beautifiul, the entire fish room is.

I have been running a 125g off of a single corner matten filter since January and I love it. The look is clean. The heater is hidden. Everything is contained inside the tank.

I power mine with powerheads instead of air, but if I was running multiple tanks I would make the switch.

I was going to go with powerheads but the wattage to run two in each tank and as big as I needed, it would have cost more than what I use now. Got any pics of your setup?
What brand of air pump are you using to power the filter and how is the air pressure hold up with the time of use? Most of the air pumps I had used in the past would barely produce any air after a year of use.

At the moment I use a cheap commercial Elemental Air Pump 1744 GPH. My last one crapped out at almost a year old, still under warranty they sent me a new one so back in business. If it wasn't for the fact we were remodeling the kitchen I would have bought a different quieter brand such as Alita or WON Brothers.

Last month I noticed the pump getting louder and louder, then I noticed the water output was very VERY low, once I plugged the new one in, the output was restored and water was flowing again.

Sorry for the update to an old thread. I have spent a bunch of time researching this today. Really seems amazing. Unfortunately some of the content by the German guy that was promoting this is not longer available. I saw references to this being done for tanks up to 350g. Have you seen that? I wonder up to how large of a tank you can do this for.

Do you think there is a bigger benefit for using a powerhead instead of air pump like you did? That 660g tank is using powerheads instead. I am guessing that if you are using an airpump in a tank that size, you probably need to have a circulation pump in the tank just to make sure for appropriate water movement regardless.
