Update of 150g Polys Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Smelts has more calcium per serving. In order to grow one would need calcium to strengthen bones. I also see smelts has no saturated fat. This stuff is really bad in human.

Have you thought maybe the sodium is from the salt they sprinkled on the fish before packaging? I see them do this a lot when I was the pier in Asia watching them hauling in fish.

Where did u get your tilapia? I'll get a picture of my Wallymart tilapia content up soon

Polyaddict86 Polyaddict86 feeding smelt to a big bass is so much fun. It's like feeding a seal in water. The bass get all crazy. LoL

Most tilapia in a bag is CO treated (fake red color in the bloodline). Also spongy feel from water absorption after thawed in the tank. Presumably there's some expansion in the stomach if immediate consumed.

All Natural is usually has light brown bloodline and less spongy after thawed.

There are some other brands I use list salt as a second and last ingredient. It's dipped in salime solution before flash freezing.

Idk i use both but tilapia as a staple, i believe that higher protien with the bones and guts of the smelt will bulk up the poly, but if you dont watch is carefull it can foul the water fast.

Lol. Serving size is the same on the nutrition label. Didn't see that before my post above. It makes sense now. What do u guys/gals think?

Not a nutritionist, but will say this. Tilapia is typically a dieters fish( due to the high protein and low fat content), so that doesn't surprise me that it should be a staple. That's interesting that the Cholesterol is that amount. Didn't know it had that much cholesterol in it. Not sure how cholesterol affects fish or sodium. Smelt seems okay to me as far as the protein content and low fat, seems very similar to tilapia to me.

Hmmm.... my biggest reasoning behind why i never tried smelt, capelin, or other saltwater type feed was the sodium content. They seem similar to the farm raised tilapia. Also concerns of the thick spine that the poly has to digest. Protein seems to be higher at 21g versus the smelt 15g.

Any nutritionist here good at deciphering this tilapia label to the smelt above by fishncash?

any thoughts about digesting the spine? That concerns me as well.

I know smelt was fed instead of capelin to the dolphins in the winter for them to put on weight.
