Update of my Gator Gars (Sept 26, 2010)

nice gars man , grr if you wer here in maldives ill buy em, too bad the government put a ban on gars , and other foreign fish :( ... im stuck with one big beast and hes so lonely

I bought my gar when they didnt know what they wer.. as i recall it was for 50 USD ... that 500 MRF here , now its prohibited to Sell,... bt lucky for me i can keep mine :D
 
They grow fast, i bought them at 2 inches and were over two feet in a year and a half !

1. This thread is really old. You will get more help if you start a new thread or just search MFK for the required information.

2. What to feed the Gator Gars depends on the size.

At 4" they only accepted live food (i.e feeders and bloodworms)... A little later they started eating fresh sea-food (shrimp, silver sides etc). And I kept them on a diet of fresh sea-food with occasionally a few pellets. This was because seafood's cheaper in my part of the world than good quality pellets.

My Alligator Gars grew from 4" to about 18" from Aug 2010 to November 2010 when I was able to get rid of them.. (I only had a 4 foot tank back then.)

I hope you have a large tank and eventually a large pond to house these monsters..
