Update on Female p14 and Male Marble

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Glad things are turning around.

I think it would be beneficial to create a thread where people talk about issues they have had with rays like flukes or other parasites, or bacterial, along with symptoms and remedies. Then make that a sticky. There is alot of good information in this forum like the top post that gets lost in the abyss I think. I would never expect to find info on treating gill flukes or gill flukes symptoms from reading a title like "update on p14..."

There is already a medication sticky on what meds can be safely used with rays and what to be used for, however it's vague at best about symptoms. Just my 2 cents...

Well finally everybody is at 100%, and things have calmed down here. The female is doing amazing, and is healthy. She is already broke and eating massivore, carnivore, and cichlid gold pellets.
The marble is now back to normal as well. They are still in a 50 gallon plumbed into main tank.. The p14 will be moved into the adult tank very soon. :)

One thing i can say is that gill flukes can be tough.. Prazi works though, just need to be persistent and follow instructions, and you must treat a second time a few days after first treatment, and i would suggest a third treatment a week after all that too.

The biggest signs of flukes would be

1. breathing out of one spiracle
2. "Coughing"
3. red around mouth
4. discolored gills (depending on the color of the ray)
5. Body laying completely flat, (something you will recognize)
6. Heavy breathing (spiracles opening very wide) sometimes only on one side
7. Possible to see some thrashing like trying to shake a bug off of them

Just thought i would share my experience with them.

Glad it all worked out well
I too have been through two cases of gill flukes in the past few months
Been very hectic

I sure hope you have pups around the corner. I wonder what the p14xleo/hen pattern would turn out like from your bloodline

my female is actually a leo/hen x leo so would be similar to yours i would think, but with some leo in the mix.
If she is pregnant from my old bd again she would be due here soon. that is why i think the p14 is now showing interest as she would be getting close to end of pregnancy. Weird she only had one pup last litter and i never saw movement or a bulge on her. she looks like that again this time so maybe one pup, then next round hopefully the p14.

thanks everyone for the comments.

SHARK13 SHARK13 i do agree with you!
