Hey Everybody,

I haven't been on in while, well I have some new updates lol and some questions :grinno:

Well first off I hope everybody is well and tanks are thriving. Now back to my tank, I've notice coraline growth, my zoa's finally opened up, but half are missing :( . I should be getting my light back...which broke randomly a few months ago...the place is taking forever to give me my light.

Current Tank Inhabitants are:

-Convict Tang
-3 Fire Fish
-4 Chromis
-Maroon Clown (Will be removed due to destruction of my tank it is causing)
-Diamond Goby

Well now the question's begin...hope you guuys can handle them Lmfao :nilly:

Can a Derasa Clam live on the sand under 216 watts of T5?

How to clear aitapsi anemones effectively?...it's an invasion they spawned out of no where..there's about 10 in my fx5 in tank filter and at least no joke 30-40 aitapsi on my rocks!!!

How can you tell if your polpys are multiplying and attaching to other rocks instead of dying?

After the aitapsi invasion is killed I will be adding a variety of mushrroms and polpys, is their anything I should be concerned after accimilating them to the tank?

Should corals be quarentined?

Thanks Everybody....

Get a peppermint shrimp or two. They removed all of the aiptasia from my aquarium and also help to keep the aquarium clean by eating leftover food, detritus, algae, and such.

Hey thanks for the reply,

I've been hearing about natural preds like the peppermint shrimp, copper banded butterfly's and a type of nudibranch that feast on these anemones. The only downside of the peppermint shrimp, I;ve read somewhere where it said that they may eat valued corals like zoas/polyps and pick at mantles of clams...

Peps will eat LPS corals...and anemones.

Acans are a favorite.

Never had them fail at killing my aptasia, also never had them fail to move onto something else afterwards.

Hey Fleshy, I guess I'll use pep shrimps to clean up the pests then when ever I get my HOB fuge I'll put them in thier.
Acans is a type of coral right? I'm at my cousin's house right now and he has about 5 corals, 2 huge scallops, derasa clam...etc. Well one of his coral's is what he say's are Acan...I'll look it up.

Also maybe do you think the clam will thrive in a tank with that much light wattage...from the sand bed?

Thanks A Million

Most clams are grown on the sand bed. I dont know what your cousin is using for light though, so I cant say if it is sufficient...how long has the clam been in there? How big is it? Does it seem healthy?

I have used peps in the past several times, and this is why I can tell that they will eat LPS corals. Yes, acan is the same acan he is talking about most likely.

No worries dude.

Lol thanks flesh, well the clam has been in his tank for about 2 weeks lol. He is currently running two different light fixtures...thier T5s. He said he's gonna upgrade to my fixture soon. The clam looks to be about 2-3 inches and pretty healthy. When a fish swarmed close and touched it immediately it closed...but a few seconds later it opened up.

I guess I should not add any LPS until I have the peps removed from the tank. Cool well thanks guy's I'll update soon.

Clam sounds healthy.

I havent really had issues with peps and anything other than acans...others reported that other LPS were targeted though.

Still I guess I'll be on the safe side and remove them after corals are added...I'm guessing since their is about 40 of these anemone's roaming the process of iratication is gonna take a few months for peps to clear them?

That really depends. I had a tank where every surface was covered with them.

Probably took three of them less than 3 months to eat every last one.
