It will be happier with sand and in a group, yes, but its not going to kill it and make it suffer. Altifrons are less group oriented anyhow if I am mistaking and I'm fairly certain that is what it is. That stocking may not last forever in a 55 either but again, I've seen worse. The stock can always be thinned as needed as I am sure these are not full grown adults yet.
its all cool, I know it won't kill them, but i know gravel can cause some serious damage in a geos mouth ( cuts, getting stuck, sores), i know she wouldn't want that to happen to her fish. i was just trying to help her out. Also its a way for the geos to show more color. I know my altrifron would be happier in a group but atleast he is in a group of red heads. The stock is working for know, but like you said she will need to thin something in the future. No hard feelings loves severums Cool fish, and i want the pike cichlid
