I keep my 3 fire bellied toads in my 20 gal tank with a water terrarium setup. I recently got live plants to make the tank more exotic and I also bought a few guppies for the toads to chase. My toads have been a bit thin so I am feeding them a lot more and I am using vitamin dust to keep them healthy. I got a new TC-20 318 Turtle Filter than works fantastic for the frogs. I plan making more updates soon. Wish me luck!

cool! I have always wondered if these frogs were messy enough to require a filter. Is it just mechanical or do you need biological filtration for them too?

Filters help with the toxins in the water as well, but yes they are plenty messy enough to need a filter unless you want to do tons of water changes.

What type of viatmin dust are you using?

I use biological filtration just because I have the fish, but you could do well without the bio with toads.

Actually biological filtration its the most inportant one, mechanical filtration is closely linked to it, since the filter media allows for benefecial bacteria to trive and reduce nitrogenous waste.

In my 40 gallon paludarium I have 2 FBTs, along with a green tree frog, a red zebra mbuna, and an American Toad. I have had the FBTs with a variety of other animals before with no problems, and I don't use a filter. Just a once weekly water change and a small pump to make some water movement (waterfall). The FBTs won't even go in the water, instead choosing to burrow with the American Toad (the three are always together in a burrow under the coconut shelter). Thought I'd share.

BTW Zachary, the FBTs will probably eat the guppies (mine did so I put in my 3 inch Red Zebra Mbuna, who actually does very well with them).
