sorry about the blurry pictures i used my cellphone...

why is this one pale compared to the rest?

no more trophus's got rid of them cuase of their diet... lost all calvus/comp cause of various reasons and lost 3 fronts or so... cant remember... most jumped the tank... the ones that left, i dont think these guys are going to jump any time soon... woot woot!!

If you get a darker substrate i think your fish will really darken up, put some rocks or clay pots in there too, they like to have a area to go to to be safe. There color will darken usually . The one fish might look lighter cause it is the dominant fish. I noticed on my similar sized fish that the dominant one has a different coloring, the blue/white is bluer and the black is more of a grey/black compared to inky black. Hope this helps.

Was your tank cycled before you put your fish in? If not the ammonia and nitrite will build up and kill the fish. Do daily water changes until the tank cycles, 10 to 20 percent everyday. Dont know if that is the case or not, just thought i would throw that out there since you stated you had fish losses. I am a mod on another website and wrote an article about it if you would like a link , PM me and i will send it to you.

I bet the tank is cycled. Didn't you set this system over a year ago now?

I would add some cover for your guys...

nope set it up last week but used all the water in the 125 next to it (their old home) and moved it to the 240 then added 125 gallons of fresh water new water so it had like a jump start cycle... i like the substrate cause its like 250lbs of reef sand (not cheap). it keeps the ph up.... i need to paint the background though.... trying to figure what to do.... cant spray paint anymore....

Was the substrate from an established setup? Usually adding some substrate and more importantly established filter media works for cycling. I'm not sure water alone will do it.

Nice fish, definitely add some rocks though. And i'm not sure about the aro/dats in those water conditions.

I would switch filters or if you have two filters on the established tank then take one off and switch it. That will help alot, the water from the other tank wont do much IMO. If you want me to copy and paste my article on how to cycle with fish present let me know and i will PM it to you. Its not a problem, i would paste it right here for ya but its kind of long . Do you want it? do you care if its long and in this thread ? I would hate for you to lose expensive fronts from ammonia poisoning.

i've used slate rock before but all they do all day is hide... and it was lame.... so i was like screw you guys... you guys get no rocks.... and plus when they had rocks they were more aggressive to each other... now they have no territory so they all cool with each other... the substrate was from the established setup the filter is not... i think i'm doing fine now i know how to take care of them... been taking care of them for 3 years now and haven't had a casualty in a while (knock on wood).... i dont know what darker substrate would keep the ph up and now even if i did i wouldnt switch it because i have invested too much in substrate 6 bags of reef sand at 40 bucks a bag is 240+ tax (.07) the substrates total is $256.80.... so i dont see myself changed the substrate anytime soon... anyways i cant even reach the bottom of the tank to put rocks in cause the tank is too tall its a 72Lx24Wx31H or a 240 tall tank if you look in some of the pictures you will see my ladder i use to turn on and off the lights and for other things that i need to do around the tank

anyways i was going to put a background on this tank....but cant spary paint anymore so you guys have any suggestions??

I see...the other thing i would be concerned about is that aro...since its an acidic amazonian fish...
