It will help, but it doesn't have enough flow for a tank that size to stir up detritus from the bottom. Get a powerhead or two. One in the range of 750-900 gph should be decent in stirring up the poo.
 
I know this is alot but can you reccomend a powerhead for an 80 gallon on amazon

For good flow at a cheap price, get a Marineland Maxi-jet. For your tank I'd recommend a 750 or 900, or a 1200 if you want a bit more current. That would be fine too.

If you want better energy efficiency, similar flow and better quality at a much higher price, get a Hydor Koralia powerhead.

I use both of the ones recommended. The Marinelands are noisy on startup and eat up a bunch of energy and I've had one of my three die on me. The Hydors run like a champ and are super quite and have never given me any issues.
