  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
lookin good!

It shouldn't even be debatable now. 100% green sunfish. :)

Yeah...he doesn't bother my bichirs...but he probably won't be in there forever...I would like to expand my stock and I don't think he will allow it...I am moving to Colorado in the near future so, since he is native here and found all over in the waterways near by, he maybe released to mature further...just out of curiousity, is that legal?? lol

I think the rule is that native fish that are kept with tropicals shouldn't be released because they can have parasites/diseases picked up from the tropicals.

Nope. Do not release. Not legal and who knows what he might introduce into the waters where you release him.

It's not legal or safe to release fish back into waterways whether they've been with tropicals or not.

Ok, thanks. I wasn't sure on that. I will just find him a home with someone...who hopefully won't cook him when he gets bigger...lol

Go to NANFA.org. Somebody there might take him. It is a green sunfish. If it's mature, you can sex it by looking at the genital pupae just ahead of the anus. The females are larger and more rounded, the male longer. At least, I'm pretty sure. I usually wait till their in breeding color to sex them.

The rule is that hobbyists should NEVER release ANY fish. The only acceptable releases are those done by government and other agencies that have the government's permission. Even species that are native to a region can introduce pathogens that are NOT.

hey I also work at petco, i took home 12 green sunfish myself and they killed off a few rainbows and a few of their own. They are out in my pond now beefing up. Do you ever get any other interesting fish in your feeders (not counting crays and tadpole, of which i assume you get also.)?

I Dont know how all this greenies are poping up at all these lfs but the feeders must be in outside ponds or something.
