^^ I'd have to agree, it irks me to see any sort of illegal activity posted here as much as it does when someone tells me in person "It's okay, when he outgrows his tank I'll just throw him in the river, no one will know."
Not cool, just not cool.

I've been searching this forum a lot lately, and you wouldn't believe how many times people have mentioned releasing their fish in the wild! (I know that doesn't really have much to do with this thread, just shows the disregard some people have for nature) Lots of people on here have aquired their fish illegally...and I realize that you might have to "bend" the rules a bit to get natives in some states, but to go around talking about it without regard is kinda rediculous.

I have to agree with the cavalier attitude of this guy - "Don't flame me!" - and yet he has :

a) illegally obtained his fish, and
b) is stating as fact that these fish will survive because he collected them as young individuals, when he has no basis to support it. Just his theory.

I still suspect a troll here.

I just didn't like how he was trying to make it sound like these are "easy" fish to keep, just because they've survived for a little bit in his setup. Trout and salmon are demanding species requiring cold, clean water. He says they can be kept in roomp temp water if acclimated when young. Well in the wild, yes they may experience temps of over 65-70 but it is for a short time of the year. We'll see how long they last...

Don't get me wrong, I'm excited to see someone try a species that is very rarely kept. I just think if your going to keep a coldwater fish, you should have a coldwater setup, not an outdoor pond with no temperature control.

I also feel that aquiring these fish was not exactly legal, since they are too small to have been taken on hook and line (show me where its legal to catch gamefish with some other method). Besides that, there are size limit restrictions on that river http://www.flyfishingconnection.com/regulations/mi/mi_regspere.html

well said, i know nothing of cold water species. i understand your point though. thank you for the insightful reply.

tropond, best of luck with your fish, hope everything works out with them.

Ok,

a) illegally obtained his fish, and
b) is stating as fact that these fish will survive because he collected them as young individuals, when he has no basis to support it. Just his theory.

Assuming that he has done these things he hasn't really violated the purpose of the laws, He isn't extensively poaching a ton of fish or anything.

Growing up I'd catch large fry and small juveniles of gamefish and keep them for a year then release them back into the lake before they outgrew the 30 gallon tank I kept them in. I know this is me interfering with the perfect world that we live in but really the harm is nothing in the grand scheme of things they came from and returned to the same lake. Lots of people on here would go crazy for that. I say keep on keeping them fish, let us know how it goes.

Considering all the shenanigans that happen to natives, this is way less intrusive than fishing(I fish) so chill out guys let him speak his bit. If his 2 fish die I doubt he will go catch another batch and keep trying over and over and over.

thanks chameleon, you are 100 percent right. And now comes the test, Marquette is acting normal just has more energy and eats more like any fish when the water heats up. It was 80 degrees and rainy today, so that means 70+ degree water falling into the pond, it's been 80 two days in a row now. I felt the water and it is very warm, like if it was a pool then it would be a great swim. It is in the 70's and this is the hottest the pond ever is. So far so good, fingers crossed.
