really nice mate. in your old thread of this fish i accidentally stated that escondido are quite common, but i meant carpintis. i've never seen a escondido before over here. nice pick up and worth the money if you really wanted it and are happy with it.

thanks man
yeah super happy with it

From everything I have heard there are very few Escondido's over there and that price is fairly common. If that is the fish you want and the only way you can get it is to pay $160 then so be it. As long as your happy that is all that matters.

Also, I believe that escondido's are a collection local variation on the carpintis. I don't think they are line bred for that coloration, but are actually that way in the wild.

I posted some pics of my pair on here yesterday with some other fish pictures. Your's looks very similiar to my female.

I would say it's line bred if it's green, as all escondido's I've seen (both in photos and in person) have been blue. Or rather if it is green and breeds green true, then it is mostly likely line bred. Not sure why anyone would take arguably the prettiest blue cichlid and make it a common green, but differant people like differant things. As long as the OP is happy with the price, then it obviously was a good one.

it can look blue or green depending on the lighting

Yes, but if these look green under all/any lighting, they would almost have to be ... at the very least, line bred yes?

I don't think so. Every escondido I have ever seen was a blueish green. I have never seen one that is pure blue. They tend to look more blue in person then they do in pictures though. The flash almost always makes them look more green.
