hey ricko, i plan on moving a 125g two rooms over in my house. it is stocked with damsels, tangs, blennie, trigger and a few other fish. Coral is limited to a healthy colt, few mushrooms, random polyps and a finicky frogspawn. I would estimate appox 100lbs of live rock.

I have been looking through the threads and you are one of the few who have recently relocated a tank. any pointers? I was considering buying a whole new tank, setting it up and then transfering everything over. its seems like this may not be required.

words of wisdom?

Words of wisdom??? DONT DO IT, worse job ever. LOL.
Honestly if i have to move mine again i might just sell it instead. lol.

With mine i just bought 2 160ltr tubs, filled with water and the live rock and divided the fish and inverts between the two. With a powerhead keeping it circulated. They stayed like this for approx 36hours.
After my tank was filled with ocean water i moved the live rock from the tubs to the tank. Then i emptied 90% of the water from the tubs and trickled water from the tank to the tubs(one at a time) until they were almost full again(over the space of about half an hour). Then i put the fish and inverts in the tank.

In my opinion it is all about time, if you can keep all your water from your tank and do the move in a few hours then nothing should go wrong. Obviously my way works too but i would not have been feeling easy f those fish were stuck in those tubs for any longer.

A new tank is a good idea but only if you are keen to upgrade, i thought about doing that as well but didnt want to part with my tank as i made it myself(with a friend).

Also i have approx 270lbs of live rock which was plenty for bio filtration in the tubs, although approx 70lbs didnt fit and were put in a spare tub. So if you do it my way just make sure your fishes bio load is still taken care of while they stay at the Holiday Tub.

Awesome tank. Is it drilled? or have overflow? when the pumps turn off, does the sump level rise?

Yeah all drilled, three 25mm outlets and one 25mm in. When the return pump is switched off the sump rises approx 50mm, about 30litres from memory.

Awesome. Fantastic use of potential space in a sump. So the top tank is about 200 gallons, plus a sump of what volume? I bet it goes a long way to keeping a healthy stable tank with low maitenance.

From memory the sump is approx 80gal so does make it easier keeping a stable environment with almost 300usgal of water. Plus it is lightly stocked so makes it easier again.

very nice setup u got there dude. i agree about the live rock filtration, in salt water setups it is the best. no bio balls no scrubbies no nothing. maybe jus filter sock and live rock. if that was my sump i'd maybe throw some live rock in there too, and portion off a small fuge area. awesome awesome setup tho. nice lighting as well, what kind are you using on that

I have the plenum all setup so don't even use a sock, any excess food and what not will be taken care of by the inverts down there. Have thought about live rock in the sump as well but will see how it all goes, thinking about a couple of small blue damsels down there so will put rock in if i do that. Otherwise all seems good, a mth after the plenum was finished my nitrate had dropped from 10 ppm to 5ppm, and i feed heavy too.

Anyway i'm running 3 150w 14000k halides (soon to be 20000k) and six actinic cf's.

Thanks to you all as well for the positive feedback. :)
