Update on the JDs

That is a pair of cichlids that I would love to spawn. I really like my Jacks. Congrats!! Keep us posted on the progress of the fry.

that male looks great, how many babys did you keep?

Well there was prob. a good 200+ when we took them out, but some of the bigger ones ate a few off, a few died of fungus and some just died off so theres about 35-45ish now =( but we kept them all so far prob. start giving them off or something once they get to 1/2inch and inch.

The male has alot of markings on the lower gill plate,nice fish,what size tank did the spawn take place?

The male is about 5-5 1/2ish inches and the female is about 4-4 1/2ish inches. They spawned in my bf's 30gal. I got a few more pics of the male tonight.

Wow, based on the lower operculum markings I would have thought they were both female. Interesting.

I unno but he is def. a male, fish can suprise you sometimes. I have africans that have all the markings of females yet they are male O__o;

They are fed omega one (super color pellets) and whatever else my bf throws in there which consists of live crickets, ghost shrimp, "super" worms, and prob. sinking shrimp pellets.

I would think that male was a female only by the gill plate.What do you do with all the kids?
