Update on the Marineland Stealth Recall

I just called UPG and they suggested returning it to the retailer as one of the many options. I told them that's what I'll probably do since it is more immediate than waiting for UPG to mail me a replacement.
 
I just called too I think they offered me a Via Aqua? as a replacement or I could get a refund I have atleast 4 I said I wanted a refund and 2 replacements.They said once I receive the replacements return the old heaters and they will send me a refund.
 
Before I even saw this my friend and I went and exchanged 2 pros and one regular stealth at petsmart. They gave him 3 aqueon 250 watt heaters and a few other little things that he was going to buy. They were really nice about the whole thing.
 
yeah there are no petsmarts around me, just petco and petsupermarket. I got it from petco and still have the box and reciept. Do you think theyll take it? Ill heve to check tomorrow, before i take it there and they say no and just have to bring it back.
 
Damn that sucks, I own 5 of the pro models, 2 250w in my 125 a 100 or 150 in my 40 gallon and 30 gallon and a 75w back up for my 10gallon med tank. My gf has 3 100 w in her salt turtle and axolotl tanks. With 7 heaters total we have not had any issues.... All purchased from different places at different times..... I love the look. Is there anything else on the market that is all black? Most heaters are hideous IMO. And Do u think petco will take all of them back? (no boxes or receipts)

I began using Aqueon Pro heaters when I heard about the issue with the stealths.

Most places should take them back with no receipt or package. Just make the phone call first so your fish don't get cold.

Just got back from Petsmart they did an even exchange for 3 new Aqueon Pro 250s. Had 3 stealth 250s, but no receipt. No issue from PS at all. Scary to see how many fires, broken tanks and injuries that were actually caused by the stealths. Even scarier to think there are still people using these heaters :screwy:
 
Amazon has the Aqueon Pro 150 W heaters for a decent price with free shipping. These are similar to the original Stealths. I have 5 tanks with large fish so I'm trying these out. I need to replace 5 of my 10 heaters right away, so I chose to pay for next day shipping. I will have to get the others a little later and might try the Ebo Jager Heaters for my smaller fish.

I do plan to return all 10 heaters to UPG on Monday, and hope there is no issue.
