Yeah be patient thats the key with keeping kelberi. Not all of them develope fast and thats why you see lots off people selling off their "ugly" kelberi. Little do they know that most of the time they are just not fully developed and just need a little more time. My 12" female kelberi is still developing. Im seeing more spots on the anal fin developing every day so yours will be be nice at 12" :)

There's hardly any kelberi in the UK so I will be keeping this one for good. I'm lucky to have it. Most the cichla fans I know in the UK wonder where I get these fish from.

those two are gorgeous!!!!DUDE i'M not makin fun at all i think it looks cool your pinima's cheek marking looks like a klides dale horse lokkin at the moon!!!

Exactly. Some people say negative things about Kelberi and think they are overrated. That's just because they only ever see pictures of ones under 10 inches.

See I don't even believe in how they should look at a certain size because for example, you see some kel that have tons of spangling going on at 5" and another you have at 5" has not too much spangling at all if not none. People are going to say that the kelberi that had no spangling at all will look like garbage. That happened to me with a Kelberi I use to have and he ended up with tons of spangling as he matured. Thats why I go by how old and mature the fish is, not by the size because you might have a slow developer. If someone has a kelberi that doesnt have spangling they are disapointed and try to dump it right away. When if they have a little patience, the fish might take a while to turn out the way they think it should look but it mostlikly will get there.

Yes, agree. You can't say at what size they will have spangles. I just mentioned 10" as an example. Although I have limited experience with them, it is so fun owning this species because they seem to never stop changing.
