UPDATE to why my Africans are Dying!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for all the posts everyone. I have managed to save a few of my breeding groups and some growouts. I think the majority of the dying is done. I still lose a fish a day or a few a day but I think it is due to the cold tanks. Currently most of the tanks are around 68 degrees but I can't afford to buy 80 heaters not to mention pay for an electric service to support them all. I have a lot that I quarantined in stand alone tanks with heaters and treated and they are doing great so I posted some for sale on aquabid.com

I haven't heard anything on the test results from the lab yet but I have been a thorn in their side as much as I can be(although they won't even produce a copy of the original test results). They will reimburse me for shipping expenses and replacement of all dead livestock if the water test comes back in my favor. They have been very tight lipped and the DEC doesn't seem to want to get too involved for some reason. It really pisses me off. It's a large gas company and I am a small fish so to speak. My loss is pushing close to $12,000 in dead stock alone and that's not accounting for the fry all my breeding females would have been producing this whole time. Very, very frustrating!!!

My death toll has reached 387 fish.

If it's not entirely too late, you mentioned a truck load of water. You could always call a company who comes in and fills swimming pools. That would get you a butt load of water quickly and some companies have the ability to heat the water.

But I'm sorry for all your losses. Most typical lawyers may not take your case, but there should be a few out there that may be willing.

I think if you look at this from a business standpoint and consult with attorney that deal with business suit, you may have better luck. Most private attorneys aren't equipped of cabable of taking on big corporations. My best advise on that is to find a lawyer that deal in corporate/business suit and see what he may be able to do for you. With that kind of dollar value, I would say that small claims is out of the question.

It good to hear that you have things under control somewhat.

I'm not sure if you are interested, but there is a guy on the Midwest Cichlid Association that is selling a bunch of heaters and misc stuff. You might go over there and see what he would be willing to do if you bought all of them.
