ugh, no water conditiner tell friday, tank is getting low, but they will be getting a big water change on friday, going to buy two water conditiner as i like doing water changes, twice a week sometimes three times a week :)

Have you thought about adding a little bit more sand, in my experience mbuna like to dig pits and hills as part of their mating ritual. Mine are constantly moving the sand from one area to another and it's entertaining to watch them suck it up and spit it out.

my mixed mbuna ( hap/peacock/malawi mbuna ) tank is bar with 3 sponge filters and sand mixed with river gravel, i have about 2 inches of sand in there and at some areas only 1 inch. they love to dig. have had them breed ( well so far the ahlis and OB peacocks have bred, just got the other species a few weeks ago ) and same with the tang tank. but that tank has 3 sponge filters, and a bunch of decorations. the trets are kinda aggressive. but they dont pick on the julies though.

It didn't look that deep in the pic, that's why I asked. Mine are always digging. If you add more hiding spots like in the other tank with the pots and pvc then they'll probably try to breed a bit more. It seems like when the female is holding she likes to be as hidden and protected as possible. I'm only speaking from what I've seen in my own tank though.

It's a pretty mixed tank now, but it has kenyi, bumblebee, aurateus, yellow lab, white lab, blue acai, electric blue johanni, snow white scolofi, hap 44, and some clown loaches thrown in for the bottom. There's been some cross breeding lately so I also have a bunch of juvi's that are mixed but have some great colors and patterns.

awosme! i have bred demasonii/socolofis/red zebras/ob peacocks/ahlis ( well OB and ahlis recently but others i have bred in the past ) sadly when i strpped my female elec blue ahli, she died a few days later :(
