Hiya Waymon, welcome to MFK.
Please don't multipost like that, we are trying to break kentobizmol of the habit as well, it doesn't boost the post count and is considered spamming.
There is a thread about getting snakeheads, (pros and cons) in the "frequently asked questions" forum. I will say here though that they cannot be sold on MFK for legal reasons, there are also F+W people who troll for offenders.

r they legal in ca?

I live in So Cal and I know of a few pet shops that carry them. They actually list them as spotted gars. So I'm pretty sure they're legal.

Benzjamin 13, all species of Channa are now outlawed in the USA by federal regulations due to a few idiots releasing them into places like the Potomac river, true gars are also illegal in Ca. I have a feeling what you are seeing for sale are Boulengerella maculata, the spotted pike characin, here are a couple comparison pictures, top is the B. maculata, middle is the true spotted gar, Lepisosteus oculatus, and bottom is one of the snakeheads.

What would we do without guppy... He knows EVERYTHING, or at least can find it. Thats a pretty good pic of the spotted gar, I like thim better then the needlenose, I don't think that they are as picky eaters either.
