Nice Snapper! I don't think we have any in California or if they're even legal to have...do we/are they?
I had one that was about... if you make a circle with your index finger and your thumb, about that size walking across my driveway. He was too cute. I brought him to a private pond behind my sisters place. I don't know where he came from? Wish I kept him...
I agree on the other comments about your longterm plans for that guy. They a so cute and easy to maintain when under 12 inches, but after that good luck. I got three little babies about five years ago and was amazed at their growth compared to my Alligator snapper. There were all over a foot long in about 16 months. The now reside in huge galvanized stock bins in my garage and are constantly hungry. Cool Dinosaurs with shells, but a huge responsibilty considering how readily available they and nobody wants them when they are big. Just speaking from experience and not trying to preach. I'm about to buy a pallet container for mine this summer. They're 44"x48"x26"tall. hopefully it'll last him another 5-6 years and hopefully I'll have gone back to school and graduated in that time and can afford to build some sort of indoor pond.
When mine was that size I had him in a 40 breeder and then onto a 100 gallon rubber maid stock tank.
