the bottom tank color can change your fish color...maybe he wants that effect on his fish.

a black bottom might make a change he doesnt want in fish color perhaps???
 
is that a nile perch that thing is huge and i love your ray...
 
looks good mike i still think the wide bars would look better in my tank...........
