Updated pics on my Syn, and fene(I think)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Also he looks exactly like this in person, same colors exact, except mines has more black. Can it be a variant? I added excerpts from cichlid news magazine just to show some reference material.

I think the shape of 1,2,4 fish is a bit different from a bifas'. Also the black spotting on the side connects all the way to the lateral line from the looks of it. I'll attach a shot of mine for comparison's sake.

First pic is when it was newly introduced, second is about 2 weeks later with the lateral line gone after it has totally settled in . You can see that the black spotting isn't that intense that it'll go all the way down to the lateral. Just my two cents.

Casper he is awesome!!

bifa fene hybrids by any chance?
when i looked at the first pic second pic and fourth pic, i thought hybrid fishes.
then when i looked at the third picture i thought it was a fenestratus.

did you buy them together as fry of the same fry?

the one i believed to be a fene i got here in NYC in Chinatown under the name red head cichlid. The other guy I got as a gift from a wholesaler as fry under the name synpilus. I am inclined to think the one i believe to be a syn is in fact a male syn maybe from a different collection point. The article in cichlid news goes in deep detail about the different collection points and colors from them. I can post more scans from the article if people want to read it.

well i think they both look good!

LMAO!!...well yes, you have to go on certain days. I call this guy Mr Miagi(which obviously he is not japanese but whateverlol) hes the smallest of the LFS on Mott street. There are three on that block. One under ground that has Koi fish on the sign. The smallLFS gets more interesting things than the rest though, the basement one gets KKP's much more often and so on.

I've owned regani, argentea, maculicauda, zonatus, and synspilum I think. Only one I've got left is a male argentea.

Yeah I been to all of them and the funny thing is I call that dude Mr. Miyagi too. He definitely looks like him. The under ground one use to look like a total sh*t hole until recently, now its nice and clean lol.
