Updated Pictures of my ARTC

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks DD, btw I was hoping you'd see this thread, I've followed the ones you've got up about you're new little guy, and I hope that I've helped provide some insight for you. They're amazing fish, and I am proud to have one, after all, they're my namesake. I had him before I had MFK. I'd say they've led to each other.

i wonder if he would do alright in my 8x8 with tankmates, there are alot of dithers, (red devils, jags, pacu, plecos, oscars) do you think he would leave my rtc 12" my ck 12" and my water cow 15" alone? or would the dithers not be enough until the rtc got some size on it. i could move the ck and water cow. but i will be introducing 2 rtc x tsn hybrids and a tsn into the pond once they break 12". if you thought he could possibly get along with them i would try to pick him up from you. if there is a chance he would go straight for my rtc or other cats instead of dithers please tell me.

I think that in an 8x8 he would leave most everyone alone. From my experience, it has been a territorial thing that causes their aggression. In a smaller tank, it just comes down to it being his tank, in a larger tank with a variety of good spots to chill I honestly think he'll do fine with tank mates. Up until 10-12" he lived with a variety of nearly edible sized tank mates, only when the tank got too crowded for his liking did any agression show. I gave him a PVC pipe to hide in now and he loves it, I think that as long as he has his hiding spot, or a few to choose from that he will get along just fine.

Of course, as I mentioned there are no garuntees. It's just the nature of larger catfish, the same with the hybrids you speak of.

In my experience, when he is mixed with other catfish, he just wants His pick of the hiding spots, if they're in the way, he'll move them, which occasionally ended with a nipped fin, but never anything more serious than that. It was the smaller cichlids that he would kill, and that was only when he was in a smaller tank and just didn't want to share.

beautiful tail u have there.

I'd love to try and keep one in my 4000 gal, but I don't know how it and a jau would get along together lol. Jau don't play nice in small tanks as you said of this guy. On the other hand I could be getting a monster that will get to this size!!! Your's is gorgeous!
