Because they are fearsome looking and also SIZE.
I have been into carnivourous fishes that grows over 2ft for many years and still loves it! :grinno::grinno::grinno:

Bro you forget one of the most important part... only those who kept them till they are much bigger is that if the feeder is bigger than their mouth abit they tend to chew them and let it go and chew it again till they can shallow it...
Or steal food from other atf. The way they swim also make them look cool... swim slowly in circle...it a monster that why i keep it

Yes, the way they eat, unlike Arowanas or any predatorial fishes that swallow whole piece. African tigers slice or sashimi their prey....:headbang2

And, they swims around like sharks and behaves extremely mysteriously, like you mentioned, snatching food from each other, which makes it interesting to want to observe them:naughty::naughty::naughty:.

I am waiting for the day they reach 2 feet!

those are quite the toothy bastards! gorgeous looking speciemens. i saw one in a lfs the other day but i just don't have any more room for these big beautiful predators.
Wat a waste.
I have loved these toothy fishes, even when I first saw a red-tail barracuda in a LFS(a few yrs ago) and now I have GATF!

i am thinking to own one. but i currently only has a 3ft tank available. do you people think it will be ok to rear it inside?

how bout a 100 gallon tank?

I dun think he got keep before GATF

3feet is good enough for a small gatf... I keeping it for almost a year plus. from 3ft shift tank to 4ft... I will upgrade to a bigger tank somewhere end of the year... it is now 10"++ so if you like to keep just get it make sure you upgrade your tank when it grow bigger... my small one about 3" just die due to sickness from feeder and it is only in a 2ft tank...

need to upgrade when bigger.
say,at least 8 to 10 feet long tank? :D
but they grow slow and small ones can be kept in a smallish tank for a while.
