Updates from the 300

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The Ansogii, weeksii and teugelsi seem to be out the most. The endli and two laps seem more reclusive and hang toward the back of the tank more. They all get excited about feeding and roam around looking for food but in general the laps are "shy".

Noticed the laps and weeksii looking sleek compared to the endli, teug, ansorgii. These ones dont eat as much pellet food if any at all. So last night I did a heavy tilapia feeding and noticed a nice fat weeksii this morning. Ive been trying to feed more during the day to actually watch the fish but realize the laps and weeksii seem to do better with tilapia and night feedings. So putting them on a night feeding routine again.

My laps are the same way, seem like they know im watching will feeding and they dont eat at all. But once i turn off all the lights in my garage and i check them in the morning they have a full belly. Im guessing they are the last ones to eat after my endlis are full, i think its a lap thing, lolz

does your weeksii get intimidated by bigger bichirs?

I dont think so, when it wants to poly pile it seeks out the biggest baddest one in the tank, the endli. It has always been a shy daytime eater. Even when it was with a bunch of smaller upper jaws it was always shy during the day. But drop a huge pile of food in at night and it would have a huge belly bulge in the morning. Just realized that half the tank seems better with night feedings.

I have tried doing daytime feeding but only my cb endli and ornate will eat. Most of the WC species i have wont even try to eat during daytime, some will just smell the food then swim away.

Maybe night feedings will increase the growth rates lol
Probably but not in the weeksii, been trying for three years now.

My Endli and Ansorgii both WC are great feeders and have zero issue with daytime feeding. The laps, WC Koliba and Faranah Guinea are not as aggressive feeders and seems the night feeding might be best. The weeksii also WC is a better night feeder, it is famous for the smell it and swim away during the day. The Teugelsi is CB and eats any time, any place.
