Updates from the 300

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
After we got power back I did a small water change. Here is an issue too. I have a tankless gas heater BUT it needs electricity to spark up the igniter. So I should put one of my battery back ups on that too.

They do have these cheap air pumps that plug in and only come on when the power goes out. I could easily set some of those up for water circulation....

So when we moved this last year we are in an area with a ton of trees so not uncommon for lines to get knocked down in windstorms. I really need to prep for this.

I have some of the battery powered air pums too. Never had a power outage that lasted too long but if i did I would run the air pumps along with taking the bio media out of the filters and place them in the tank.

Someone posted a thread a while ago about how he kept his fish alive for a few days buy doing this. Except he didnt have any air pumps he would fill a container with the tank water and pour it in the tank continuesly and it would oxyginate the water

Some interesting 'behavior' that Ive noticed.

The Faranah Guinea lap and my Ansorgii both were purchase at the same time and spent time together in the qt tank. While there they both refused any type of pellet food and it would just sit and I would end up vacuuming out the stuff. This was with Hikari Sinking Carnivore and Massivore, which most predatory fish go after without much effort. Now that the lap is in the big tank it eats pellet foods. I would almost venture it is because it saw the other fish do it and learned that this was food. The ansorgii in the qt tank healing up still will not touch pellet food even after starving him for days.

What do you think? Learned behavior to eat pellets because the other polys did? lol, let the debates begin.

I think polys learn from each other, my nigerian lap, congicus and BV didnt wanna touch hikari massivore before. The only ones that eat that stuff are the cb endli and ornates, now my nigerian lap, congicus and BV eats the pellets.

I feed other things like frozen krill and chopped up silversides and noticed the fish will turn their nose up to these things but I still see it all get ate by morning. No single poly has a super big belly after feeding so I assume they all are eating it.
