Updates from the 300

Weekly update with no pics.... words, words, words. lol

So I am swapping out one FX5 for a 2nd generation FX6. Main reason is the fact the 5 has much more difficulty purging air than the 6. The lid vent was redesigned on the 6 and works much better. I actually was going to buy the FX6 lid at Big Al's for $43 but when I saw the whole filter at the Black Friday price of $170 at Petsmart, I knew this was the way to go. Now I can upgrade with a newer filter with less wear and easily sell the old one locally for $125. So this is perfect.

The FX5's have been a great work horse with no real issue but they were starting to show age in the fact that the impellers were starting to get a bit of noise. I replaced the impeller in one FX5 that was going on the tank and my 'spare' was waiting for a new impeller also. Im almost tempted to sell my spare FX5 too but then if something did happen I would have to spend a load of cash instead of just pulling the spare out from the garage.

So the 300 will be running three FX6's and I have a spare FX5 in case of emergecy.

So under the stand looks like this:

DMD123 DMD123 I love your stand. There is so much room to work with. How old was your fx5? The reason I asked is that my Eheim pro 2 impeller looks like new but the seals are all too hard. I questioned the longevity of fx5. fx6 x 3 = 150 watts.

They are 5yrs and 7 month old. Pretty good life with just an impeller replacement. I also replace seals every two years 'just because', as what I consider regular maintenace.

Wanted to add that the FX5 in the stand has been running 24/7 for that time. The other 5 was made a spare when I got the two 6's, which has been about a year now. When I bought my 5's the were $230 each! Cant believe I got the new filter even cheaper then back then.

I like polyaddict86 thinking about more bichirs. LoL he has an ambitious mind.

DMD123 DMD123 I am surprised you are still running canister on a 300. One thing I do wish is the fx6 come with wheels to roll it. LoL

If I had a 300, I would have run a sump filter system.
