Out of curiosity are you shopping aquarium paradise? If not do you mind sharing your LFS?
Sometimes, but usually not for cichlids since I don’t trust their source... too many flowerhorn mixed fish

These came from a friend who got them from a source I would trust.

I tend to buy most of my fish online now. I use Wet Spot a lot or just drive down for a long weekend and stop in the store and purchase.

Ahh, Wet Spot in Oregon? I’ve not been for years.

Looking for a stock change... my pearsei aged out and passed today. She was at least 9 years old, likely closer tp 9 1/2 to 10 yrs old. When I got her she was already about 4 1/2”. She measured out at 16”.

So my current stock is the 3 bala sharks and 5 polys. 1 each, endli, ansorgii, koliba lap, Faranah lap, weeksii

So what now? Another cichlid? Maybe a dat?
Sorry for your loss!

A little update.

About 3 1/2 weeks in the 300 gallon and it looks bad. The cichlids have got their little pecking order figured out and no real damage to each other but not so good for the tankmates. The large bala (12"+) is recovering from loosing a ton of scales and lots of tears in fins. The dominate hoga has now resorted to fin nipping the bichir. I panicked at first thinking I had a fin rot thing going with the bichir and then caught the hoga going at them. The fins are looking better now and are healing but the hoga still gets caught nipping. Its not quite as bad about it but apparently this will be a trouble fish. I am probably going to move the dominate hoga into a small holding tank and see if the other two do any better. The goal is to keep just one anyway. Looking for the one that can get along with tankmates is the goal here.

Totally missing porkchop the pearsei and her calmness.... Hopefully I find a mellow Hoga keeper. Sadly I dont even want to post poly pics with them all nipped up.

Been a long time since I did any updates.

I still have the 3 hoga and more, lol. Plan is to grow out a couple different amphilophus for the tank. So in various tanks around the house are the 3 hoga, 3 Petsmart red devils and 10 baby midas. Getting to a point where I need to thin down the growouts but for now its fun. I also rehomed my weeksii and Koliba lap to a friend. So just 3 poly now.

Great pics. I really like the contrast of the orange, grey, and green in the bottom pick. It looks like you are having fun with fishkeeping again, which honestly is the best part :). I will miss Nessie, and I am very excited for these updates with your new fish. Did you find a mellow hoga? What size grow out tanks do you have going?

All 3 hoga mellowed. Only aggression is toward each other. They are in the 300 with the baby red devils. The small midas are growing out in a 75 gallon.

Been awhile... Just a small update, yep still a poly keeper. lol

The 300 has been going through a lot of change since the loss of the big Pearsei. Decided to go back to my love of cichlids and especially amphilophus.

Lots of fish growing out at the moment...

Also a complete garage make over that will include two 75 gallons, two 65B's and a 30 gallon. This is all still being worked on.
