I think there are similarities......but, I think ATF's building blocks are more refined, intramuscular, bone structure, these things take time to build up the type of resilience to rock out in the type of water these things are caught in when you take them out of it. That muddy nightmare current is INSANE. The water in South America is a fraction of the aggression. You take a wild fish out of that water in Africa and you put it in a nice clean, calm, quiet tank, and they aren't fighting for their lives anymore building constant muscle strength, Armatus wouldn't last 5 minutes in that water. I'll bet ATF grow that fast in their own water pushing 3G's all day and night.

:iagree:

i dont...ive seen people with extreme currents and large tanks for ATFs but they still seem to grow as slow...

yea that's true... the atfs are the superior all arounder. armatus is sort of a neat niche evolution, mostly show, not much go.

on atf fighting: find the gashes on the fish from time to time that heal with out an issue. occasionally the vatfs get in dogfights, man they are fast. the gatfs don't show much aggression, they're more like bombers. occasionally see gashes on them, my guess is they're from the vatfs. i think as long as the tank space is large enough for a fish to do a full speed lateral loop, these kinds of skirmishes usually end unscathed.

The payaras are not nearly as fast, but they have a sidestep technique that usually works well. Unlike the scomb, ralph, tats I've had, the armatus are territorial and semi-defend their location. 2 of them appear to be "shoaling" while the third hangs back.

You can not create the same type of environment in a tank. It's not possible.

I'll bet it also has something to do with what they are eating and how frequently they are eating it.

exactly!
so why do armatus still grow so quickly?
im betting ATF grow slow in the wild too.

I'm thinking because the armatus is weaksauce, if it didnt grow quickly, it would die. Similar sized atfs are much more robust. any scientists know whether it's "easier" or "faster" to evolve speed of growth or physical attributes?
