i dont use rodi water.
I have a skimmer
wont a lettuce nudibranch poison the tank if it dies?
how are serpent sea stars? aggresive?

Sea hare instead of the nudibranch. They wont posin the tank.

Serpent stars are okay, but a good clean up crew takes their place.

I would go snails and hermits ...

or serpent star and sea hare.

Having to much of a clean up crew can cause deaths from the lack of food. Remember they still need to eat!!

yeah sorry a Sea Hare would be muuuuch much better, my apologies.

some snails, some hermits and a brittle star is probably your best option.

are you using de-chlorinated tap water? that's one of the worst thing you can use for a salt water tank. i would invest into an RO system.

yea thats what I use... what do you recomend instead of getting a ro unit?? if i HAVE to I will try to get one. Also I think its reduculouse the lfs sells there salt water so thats out. is there any options?

never owned a sea hare, i just thought there was the 1 type so can't help you there.

and you can use dechlorinated tap water you're just going to want to have a ridiculously good refugium to help with high nitrate and phosphate removal and a really decent protein skimmer to get out the fish waste and leftover food so they dont accumulate and turn into a big nitrate problem

You all are forgetting the fact that Yes those things mentiond above are good for getting rid of algae out of your tank..
The problem lies not with removal, but with how it's getting there in the first place..

Lets think PROACTIVE instead of REACTIVE ..

If you locate why you are getting algae on and in your sand you need to find the source so it can be rectified in order to have the outcome you would want and most desire, which is a low maintenance tank..

If you want clean sand you must have low phosphates..If you have lots of algae and low phosphates in your water it's because the algae is consuming the phosphates.

First get RO water.. If you don't get a ro unit get some water from a LFS or something.. this will solve half yuor problems..

Second make sure you have good bulbs over your tank.. Lighting (low Kelvin or old bulb) will feed algae like crazy..

Third are you over feeding your tank? And what are you feeding.?

Are you overstocked and or under skimming your tank?

these questions being answered and properly delt with, you will not have an algae problem.
