Upgrade time already

I like sumps, but I've never had a tank larger than a 180 and I used other filtration. A 150 is imo a grey area where HOB, canisters, sponge filters all can work. They aren't necessarily optimal, but they are certainly functional.

Again, just my opinion, but as you get larger, the sump becomes more and more a better choice. Again, as you can see from Justarn's post, larger tanks can run without them. It's not mandatory. Otoh, if you do get a 240 and they are close by, it's possible to set up a sump to handle both. In that case, a sump is a great solution.

If you forego it now, you still may want to lay out the rooms (tanks) in a way where you can still add a sump later.
