Upgrading from HOB to Canister. New to Canisters, any help/info/tips?

So then what canister would you guys recomend for a 72g? As I said, I like to over-filter, so if there is a canister built for a 100g, that would be ideal.

I would not mind a Sump, but for a 7g it seems too extreme, not to mention I am not good at building things at all, so a DIY Sump is not possible, and the ones at my LFS are like $500, which is too much for me at the moment.

Well the thing is if u ever buy a bigger tank in the future u dont want to buy another filter, fx5 is rated for 400gallons but id say 150gallons. It has 925gph w/o media and 525w/ media, it would work on ur 72 easily, i have it on my 90 and its squeeky clean! Plus with the dual outputs you can adjust current flow easily! Personally its the best filter ive had and imo best bang for the buck! Id avoid sunsun as they are cheaper and all plastic ive heard some luck with them but id never buy one. Youll be more then satisfied with an fx5. 240-300$ on ebay

Is the Fluval Fx5 pretty self-explanatory on setting up/running?

Also, can I adjust the intake and such? Like, make it so the intake is near the bottom, sucking up leftover food/poop, or does it have to sit at the top of the water? Same with the out-take tube (or whatever you call it, the one that pumps water back in)? Is that made so I can place it anywhere?

And, what are the measurments of your Fx5? I want to know before I buy/order one if it can fit under my tank, or if i'd need to set a place beside the tank for it.

How quiet does it run? Its going in my bedroom, so the less noise the better.

(Sorry if all my questions seem stupid, I've always had HOB's, I know nothing of Canisters and Sumps..)

if you really want quiet -lo cost filtration thats easy to deal with try 2 large sponge filters on seperate pumps 1 on a powerhead and one on an air filter .Its quiet and cheap and easy to maintain

Just FX5 it then. It's an extremely easy canister to use... Primes itself. You're gonna get 600gph with media, with around 8 times turnover, which is great. I had one on my 90 gallon for a while and it was perfect.

Works great, dead silent, water was crystal clear. Definitely like this filter..
