Upgrading tank soon, some tips or suggestions?

i used the garden hose idea myself but with a slight variation, i poured a small amount of the sand into a old pillow case and stuck the hose in then stuck my arm in and moved the sand around until it was running out clear clear. ruins the pillow case but works well. also when filling the tank have all the rinsed sand in before any water and place a plate onto of the sand and pour all your water over the plate, so as not to disturb the sand. good luck.

That pillow case idea is genius! I agree with putting sand in before water. If you do for some reason do water first, be sure and turn your filters off until the main grains of sand have all dropped. They will ruin your impellers in your filters.

Thank you for the pillow case idea I'm going to be putting PFS in my 150 in a couple of weeks and that will make rinsing it so much easier.

The pillow case is pure genius! Lol I would have never thought of that. Im still trying to figure out the best way to remove the 18" rck though. I think ill drain it half way then try and lift him out. Would a towel work also? I dont want to remove all his slime coat in the towel. For my morays I used a clean t-shirt, but that was mainly so they didnt try to bite me.

A towel or t shirt would both work just fine. Just soak them a minute first so they are softened.
