Upper Level fish for SA tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hi.. I know folks have swords with geos & gymnos, but I'm not sure I would trust the oscar with them... They're cheap enough it might be worth a try...
I don't know how they would do with the oscar and they aren't SA, but rainbow fish would probably work.. They grow to a good size ( they reds and the turqs etc)and stay near the top.. In the past I had rainbows with all sorts of mixes and they worked well... They really never even seemed to be bothered by higher temps and they were so different in color and shape etc from the other fish that no one bothered them.. I'm not a fan of silver dollars either.. somehow they just don't add much except bulk to the tanks....
Keep us posted on what worksout for you... HTH Sue:D

If you can find them, Elongated hatchfish (Triportheus sp.) are very cool, not dopey like normal hatchets ... they get much larger (up to 6+ inches) and school, and very fast.

I have a pinktail chal in my tank with my big stuff, he does fine and is definitely a surface fish. You could maybe try a group of hujetas also, though they can be tricky to get off of live food which can be a pain.

How big's the tank?
