Upper water column peacocks/haps?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Adding another peacock would create the risk of hybridization. I've always had luck with Ps. Acei with haps and peacocks. They school if you have enough and mine never really stayed in the rocks.
Thank you. I would be willing to give away my group to a friend if it came down to it so hybridization isn’t really an issue.

I've never had a peacock, hap or mbuna that stayed at any particular level of the tank. Even Synodontis multipunctatus.

I'm thinking you may need more fish rather than a fish for a particular level. How many fish do you have now? What is the gender ratio?

Placidochromis electra is a pretty small hap that has females that look different from and will not crossbreed with your baenschi.

I have 1m/7f. That’s the only fish in the tank. The waters all good and I’ve tried dimming the lights but they all stay in the rocks except to eat.

Can you post a pic of the tank setup? When I had peacocks they were all over the tank.

You want to double the number of fish. At least. 1m:7f Placidochromis electra will solve the problem.

As James said, one peacock species/tank. Are you tired of your baenschi after only 4 months?

Other haps that mature 6 inches or less that are timid could work. Look for females with distinct markings (electra females have bars) to easily distinguish peacock from hap females.
