I heard a few years back, that is how christmas trees were displayed in the past. They hung them from the rafters.

I am guessing that the reason you hang a tree from the rafters is to keep the limbs nice and plump. but a regular upside down tree sounds stupid

No, what I am saying is. This tree wasn't designed for rich people. It has been around for centuries. It was the original way to display a Christmas tree. I don't personally have one.
