Is your aro floating in the tank so that the fin is out of the water? Does it seem to have trouble balancing itself in the water? If so let me know because I recently had the same thing happen to my 24" silver aro. I was able to cure it using a combination of methods mentioned previously. My aro has never looked or eaten as good as it does now. :)

Please do share. I am very interested in the method you used.

Thanks!

Here is what I did to get my aro healthy. First I did a 30% water change. I bought enough METRONIZEDOL (antibiotic)for two treatments for all the water in the tank at ONE HALF the recommended dosage. I raised the water temp by 2 degrees and I added 1 tbs of aquarium salt for every five gallons of water and added the meds. After 48 hours I did another 30% water change and repeated the METRONIZEDOL dosage. Don't forget that when you add salt the second time you only add enough salt to treat the new water that you're adding to the tank. After another 48 hours I did a 50% water change and kept the temp. up. I again added enough salt to treat the new water. That's it. 2 days later my aro was already looking better. Within 2 weeks his new fin began to grow and his appetite returned with a vengeance. He now eats by pouncing on his food like the predator he is. Best of luck. By the way, be sure to remove the carbon from your filter and be sure to remove all other fish from the tank... you don't want to medicate healthy fish.

i'd go with water change, temperature and some salt. are there other fish in the tank also. maybe the aro is being out competed for food.

try feeding it a variety of foods so it doesnt get boredd of one. and change the water. is ur tank really dirty?

dirty tanks can still have pristine water...pristine tanks can also have some massively messed up water...just do some water changes, add some salt, up the temp. Forget about getting metro for now, main thing is to ensure your water is of good quality before anything else.
