IN MY TANK
Hi , I require some help please, how do i bring down the No2 level in my tank?

I have done water changes.
Added lots of prime.
My fish are dieing slowly any help please.

Hi guys

This is what i have done so far

1)I have done a 30%WC day before yesterday
2)Put back Coal
3)Add amino pallets
4)Put prime in the amount to take out NO2
5)Tested the water yesterday morning and it was still very high.
6)Did another 30%WC yesterday morning.
7)Add another chemical to remove the NO2.

Am i doing something wrong, how long does it take for the NO2 levels to come down?
Y didnt the prime work? Does it not work after some time?
Will be going to get some other product that brings down the NO2 levels as the prime i got does not seem to be working.

Please advise what else i can do/try to save my fish?
As everything i have tried has not worked.
How long does it take to bring down No2 levels
Thank you

Seems to me that you tank is cycling. You have a lot of stock in that tank (depending on size). I would definitely advise stepping up the water changes on a daily basis at about 50% per WC. Only use the prime during WC.

If your levels still aren't right, id do even bigger water changes. 60-70 percent per day.

What filter are you running?

I agree with what the others have said.

You have nitrIes (NO2), that means your tank isn't properly cycled. You said in a previous post that you cleaned your entire tank (I'm assuming you also cleaned your filters, which killed off a lot of your Beneficial Bacteria). Now you need time to allow the BB to repopulate.

Do not feed your fish at all while allowing your tank to recycle. Food will make more ammonia, which will make more nitrites! Once your tank is recycled, you can start feeding them (fish can go a couple weeks without food).

You need to do water changes (50%+ daily). Prime will NEUTRALIZE nitrites, but will NOT remove them; you have to remove them physically with water-changes.

You need to check ammonia (NH3) levels. Do not let them go above 1 ppm or your fish will start dieing (Do water change or use prime to give you time between water changes.)

You are in the middle of a cycling process:

NH3----->NO2(nitrites)------->NO3(nitrates)

This is a job for;

SeaChem STABILITY!!!

use as directed on the bottle x2
Be sure to shake shake shake the bottle well!!
It should be a foamy, milky, white when shaken enough...

where the bottle says 10ml, use 20ml. That's what I mean by x2.

Be sure you are de-chlorinating the water properly...
Follow the instructions on the label x2,
the regimen is for 8 days
You'll be fine...

you may also want to get a bottle of beneficial bacteria that is sold, i find that the concentrations that is required for aquatic turtles is higher, but either for fish or for turtles, adding it may help speed up the cycling period and help your nitrite problem immediately to some degree.

2 cigar sharks,
2 bala sharks,
12 poly's,
pearl eartheater,
JD.
all this in an un-cycled 50g?
Get the STABILITY as quick as you can, or you stocking level is going to get smaller real fast...

And what do you have for filtration?
