Urgent help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Unfortunately, your stocking ideas are not realistic long term, and your tank will eventually be a sardine can. Whatever you do, do not got an arowana or red tailed cat. These fish will grow larger than your tank is!
Recommend that you do some reading on MFK, lots of good information here. Should be able to get an idea of decent stocking level.
In an 80 gallon tank, I would pick your one favorite of your fish and re-home all the rest. Your current list won't work out, for one thing the jaguar will outgrow the tank, and if male it will probably kill or constantly bully the other fish. As they are small right now, you may see different aggression issues for now until they are large.

I agree with the other posts. If you're new with fish I understand the enthusiasm. There was a time I upgraded from a 30 gal to a 75 and wanted to try every fish I saw in my big new tank. No internet in those days, but there were some good to high end shops in my area where I got good advice. If I was looking at something aggressive or large growing they'd ask me about my tank and fish and tell me what was a bad idea. My willingness to try stuff helped me learn fast, but I also look back now and I'm glad they talked me out of some big mistakes. Like, no, baby tropheus are cute, but my discus wouldn't have liked them in their tank. :)

Tank size is relative to what you're used to and the fish you're looking at. An 80 gal tank might seem big, but as mentioned already some of the fish you mention wouldn't work alone in that tank for long, much less with tankmates on your list. No disrespect, everyone goes through a learning curve, but to an experienced aquarist your list looks something like having lion, tiger and bear cubs in a small fenced yard and maybe adding an elephant a hippo or a giraffe.

Tank mates need to be planned according to compatibility of size, temperament, some of their behaviors, such as feeding, and other factors. That's the beauty of fishkeeping, at it's best it's educational, not simply a matter of tossing just anything into in a tank.
