Crap...my mom called me at work today, asking if turtles were poisonous (lol). Said my dog ate one, it's dead, etc. I got home and checked it out...he's very much alive, but missing pieces. :( What should I do? I called a few wildlife rehab people but none close by do herps...the rest listed do reptiles, but are over an hour drive away (I wouldn't be able to drive tonight either). Should I just release him and hope for the best, or hang out to him for a few days until he feels better (if he makes it)? I don't have the means right now to set him up with UV lights and all the stuff I know he needs.

Am I correct in thinking he is a yellow belly slider?
 
where in mass are you?, im pretty sure the new england wildlife center in Weymouth rehabs reptiles. keep him over night ( just make sure he is kept clean, warm, and dry)

also its a male eastern painted turtle
 
he will probably die if you let him go.. i would keep him if you could...pute a bare bulb atop a box, something your keeping him and give him some heat..that will help alot, then see if you can take him to a wildlife place..or call the vets around tell them what happend maybe someone will take him in and fix the poor guy up.
good luck and hope the poor guy will be ok...he looks like some sort of slider.
 
:( Thanks guys. I'm in Ware, MA...kind of in the middle of springfield and worcester. I have him in a bare 10g right now, with a fish tank hood with iridescent lights. What is the best way to set him up? Should he have a water bowl? I will call around.
 
I have seen some worse than that pull though but the chances are still slim. Just patch him up for the time being with gauze and an ace bandage. change the bandaging every few hours and while doing to rinse out the wound with a saline solution.
 
i think he'll make it turtles are pretty tough i saved snappers that some idiots tried to kill. and one looked worse than that and just stop the bleeding
