Urgent Hurt Turtle

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks guys...everyone seems very divided on this issue (not just here, but others I have talked to). He is still kicking and seems to be doing okay. I have intentions on bringing him to Tuft's Vet school/wildlife center on Friday, I'm fairly sure they will take him in, I just need to call tomorrow morning and make sure. Thanks again for all the help.

Unfortunately it is pretty common for dogs and cats to chew turtles. Like others have said, it can be worse than that.
I think with proper care he will survive. You are doing the right thing.:)

Don't worry I think he'll be ok if you just keep that wound clean. Many idiots have tried to kill turtles such as snapper that survive with bullet holes. Also i forgot what show i was watching it involved a very old snapping turtle that had bullet wounds that matched up to guns used in on of the wars.

He looks pretty tattered but turtles are hardy. My cousins box turtle was partialy ran over and his shell was cracked and he was bleeding(looked similar to this) but he pulled through. Good Luck!!

He is actually scabbing up very nicely and I will be releasing him shortly (tomorrow or the next depending on the weather). I've picked out a nice secluded spot by a river. Very pleased he is healing, now he needs to go back out and finish on his own.

if you still have the turtle it ma be best to wait for him to heal completely on his own to give him better odds, but then again their is plenty of beneficial bacteria in lakes and rives...goodn luck
