URGENT - Need help on my arowana

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Can someone please advice me how much tetracycline should i use of a 9" arowana in a hospital tank (currently containing approx 12gals of water)?

He does not eat anymore so medicative feeding cannot be administered.

Please help...

Someone please help, I think he needs it badly now, he seems to have internal problems as he keeps shooting out undigested food from his gills fed to him two days ago. at this rate, he might starve before he recovers. Please tell me how to use tetracycline on him... I cannot find any available on our lfs here for fish, so I bought 6 tablets (the ones we use) 250mg ea.

no one seems to care, i'm going to administer him tetracyline now based on children's dosage above 8 years of age.... thanks anyway....

hmmmm
i have had good results with tetracyclin for my gars and my ornate
use 2 capsules for a 20g tank and at what temp are you keeping the hospital tank
and keep good aeration and use sponge filters
there might be a little too much froth in the tank but no worries about that
40% water change every two days and add one capsule after every water change
i hope it works out for you as it did for me
good luck

do you know how much active ingredient there is in your capsule? and how many mg does each capsule contain? thanks. he's currently in a 30C temp

okay, I'm administering 50mg tetracycline twice a day for my fish. if there are any violent reactions or opposing ideas, let me know. this is done by placing 500mg tetracycline on 500ml water, 50 ml twice a day's the dosage.

I still can't remove the dead anchor worm, it is difficult for a single person job, will see tomorrow if condition improves, I will look for someone to hold him to get this removed.

The fish is now stable and heavy breathing has lessened, swimming a bit better now. But color has become dull, tails are becoming yellowish (signs of lack of nutrition) and he hasn't eaten in 3 days.

Does anyone know how to I could make him eat?
I recently put a cover around his tank just so he can stay calmer (even though traffic does not seem to bother him that much)

Eja In the wild or on the farm when they breed the aros could go without food for more than 30 days. I think you can just let him/her recover and the appetite should return naturally.

FYI i have six aros at home and i treated the anchor worms with a NIKA product for anti-flukes and lice. How ever the treatment need 2 weeks to complete b4 the anchor worms die and drop off.

Now am using that NIKA product for future prevention. Best of luck with your end.

Cheers.

Thank you AW7020, this gives good comfort. I don't think I have problems anymore with the anchor worms, you see, they were unable to adapt to % changes in salt content of the water and its salinity.

Anyway, signs of infection has now reduced, swims a lot better than before and almost back to normal. One thing I did find when I got home this morning is that the water has turned red. I believe it was because of the gram-negative bacteria and exposure of tetracycline to sunlight that caused this (foam appeared the morning before I left), at least it indicates my medication work (even if the one I used is for humans - we don't have tetracycline for fish here).

Anyway, does someone know what to do when the water has turned red? Should I replace the water and bring it back to normal before adding another dose or should I leave it alone, do the WC and add again the dose disregarding what color the water is after the water change?

I have read somewhere that this red water is toxic to us, not sure about the fish though... thanks in advance for any advice.ü
