too keep it short. sorry if i sound rude...but this is what happened.

ammonia =0
nitrate = 25-30 Mark
NITRITE =

tank size (grow out) 60 gallon

2x baby oscar
1x juvenile green terror
6x silver dollars

i do watet changes every 3-4 days including gravel vac since aquariun is 1 n half months old. i think.cycling did not happen fully...i did tests the whole time...do not know what happened.

however...last 4 days (after my last water change) i power fed my fish...i beleive this might be the cause

took half day of work today...did 50-60% water change. will test again tonight.

please advise if i have taken the right steps and if my fish will be ok.

i have been power feeding

I agree with the above as i have been told on this same site breath take it easy, water change will fix evrything, and stop power feeding till filter catches up. Over feeding is more often the cause of alot of problems its a fine line especially in a new setup.

The biological filter is still new in your tank. The bacterial colonies are beginning to mature. By doing a gravel vac that often you're removing a ton of it without allowing it to bounce back. I would do a flush or just removing water without doing a vac. If the excess food is removed, the flush will lower the concentration of the nitrites and don't power feed. Go easy. You may also want to add a bacterial additive like dr. Tim's one and only. This is by far one of if not the best one out there. It will lower the toxicity but also consider that its not an instant fix but will save your fish. Just go easy on stocking and feeding for a while and let your biofilter catch up. Try doing water changes every couple of weeks to let everything even out again.

Slow donw on the feeding as suggested, cut back on the gravel vac but do continue to do water changes.

aquarium salt/sea-salt(make sure WITHOUT anti-caking) at 1tbsp/5g will decrease the toxicity of nitrites in the meantime, if you can, dose with amquel+plus or Seachem Prime/Safe.

To me powerfeeding equals overfeeding. The more food thrown into the tank will have an impact on the ammount of ammonia, nitrites and ultimately nitrates.

I didn't see any mention of filtration. What kind of filter do you have? Canister or sump/wet-dry? If you have a canister, what's in it? Ceramic rings?

Without proper bio-media, it will be hard to establish bio-filtration. Just saying as nothing was mentioned.

I agree with everyone here i would use some SEACHEM PRIME.... It will detoxify the nitrites so it wont harm ur fish.... I use it all the time for my water conditioner it is a really good product just make sure u follow the label exactly......

i am using a fluval 405 cannister for this 60 gallon. two trays with ceramic rings and two trays with carbon...i will be switching carbon soon for seachem purigen.

ok day 2... after doing 50% water changes yesterday...i tested again today.... nitrites are still there...but a little lower than yesterday.

i did 80% WATER change a few mins ago..did NOT gravel vac as was advised.

This is what I would do Jay. The salt thing is a good tip for the nitrite toxicity. I would cut back on feeding to once every other day and only a pinch. PM me if you want any time.
