URGENT: Nitrite

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This is what I would do Jay. The salt thing is a good tip for the nitrite toxicity. I would cut back on feeding to once every other day and only a pinch. PM me if you want any time.

From my past research with my flowerhorn, I actually added aquarium salt today with the 80% water change around 6 hours ago.

I did another Nitrite test... Nitrite is now at 0.25 (barely..very light purple).... I think im getting there...with these vicious water changes.

Tomorrow, I will be doing 50% again....

I think what happened guys, the tank did not cycle properly and the spikes started happening after adding my fish.... however, fish are eating fine... no heavy breathin, no weird behaviour, no energy loss or sulking...and YES I always use PRIME...every water change. :)

Clockwork, ill be sure to annoy you if I lose control of this situation for sure. Thanks brother

What probably happened is your tank had some beneficial bacteria built up to fully complete the "cycle" from ammonia to nitrate, but not enough to handle a bigger bioload so you're going through a mini-cycle right now where the bacteria is catching up to the bioload.

finally after:

day 1: 50% water change
day 2: 80% water change
day 3: 50% water change no vac
day 4: 30% water change no vac

nitrites are ZERO ...all fish pulled through...active...healthy and eating.
