Help guys, my ornate is behaving weirdly and looks kinda weak, only being able to lie on its back upside down even if i flip it over it automatically flips to the other side and lie on its back and not its stomach! whats happening? tank mates are bichirs which are smaller!

pics?

what makes you think it's a rectal prolapse?

What are you using for substrate, and what are your water params right now?

So my ornate died the other day after i saw it survive a while with its belly up. I got another one, same size from same shop and just after 2 days the same thing (belly up) happened and it died. Am not sure bout water para but all the other tankmates - smaller bichirs and 2 gars were all fine. Any idea what happened? Some additional clues to this mystery are bloated bodies on both occasions. Are ornate more sensitive to a certain factor im missing out?

water para
tank mates
substrate used

dont have the kit to check water para but the other fishes were fine :/ tank mates are 2 lap, 2 endli, 1 albino senegal, 2 tiny plecos, 1 spotted shortnose gar & 1 flo gar. No substrate used. It even ate food immediately upon entry into tank.

dude spend the 8 dollars on a basic test strip bottle any aquarium shop selling ornates will definately have them just ask them and then we can tell you. Saying fish are fine is not really telling us anything. There is a chemistry to keeping certain fish so pony up if you can afford a ornate you can affor a test strip kit. Secondly why didn't you take/post any pictures? Without these two things google can do more for you than we can.

i didnt post pictures cos i didnt see any visible defects. the only problem i saw was two little bulb-shaped growths at the anal fin, one on each side. rectal prolapse i was guessing.
