Before you ask, I am a Uro Fan, I had originally picked up mine at petsmart of course looking for the Festae.....I finally scored some Festae Juvis a while ago thanks to Nick @ NE Cichlids (They rock By the way) and I was wondering if you folks thought due to the close resemblance that they may or not work in the same tank....

Thoughts, concerns, experience’s??

Thanks~

Sorry:

Tank Size: 220 Gallon - 6'x2'x30"
all fish are juvis......

as long as one species stays smaller then the other.. i have a 9-10 inch festea and had a 10 inch uro and they fought like mad so i rid of the uro.

That makes no sense. If the festae were bigger than the uro or vice versa then the smaller fish will get owned. Big aggressive cichlids are going to fight. Period.

Anyway, I think you should be able to get away with it, but there will be some jaw locks and shed scales.

Actually, you'd be surprised how many smaller fish are in fact top dog.

The uros will most likely be boss of the tank, and as with ALL FISH, there will be dominance squabbles and some outright fighting, but they should settle down (which means DOING the above) after a while. That is, until one of the uros gets horny. :)

urophthalmus, or Mayan Cichlid formerly in (or still?) in genus Herichthys

Uros can be bullys but all the ones I have had get out grown and start getting muscled around and have to be moved to another tank. But I have only kept them with Trimacs, Dovii, and Midas.

the reason i said if one or the other were smaller then it would be fine is if a fish is significantly smaller like a 5 incher with a 10 incher the larger cichlid at least in my case doesnt see the small one as a threat. i had to remove the uro cause it was about the same size a my festea and getting beat on so i moved him before he died.. i still have 4-5 inch uros with my 10 inch fetea and he will not bother them until he sees them as a threat.
